Found Objects: Elisabeth

Donors occasionally leave some wonderful things in the books they give us: old postcards, letters, flyers, tickets, photos, and of course, bookmarks. Some time back I put a folder on the shop desk for other volunteers to add their finds to. This photo is one of my favourites:

On the back is written: "To Rosalie with lots of love from Elisabeth" The faded photographer's imprint reads: "Please credit Philip Gotlop A.R.P.S. No. 656-1. 22-24 Kensington Church Street, W.8. Western 4180"

A search for Philip Gotlop shows he's the author of a few photography manuals and that among his specialities were photos of stars, like the Beatles, and also erotica.

The identity of Elisabeth remains a mystery.

Thank you to all our donors

Books for Amnesty Hammersmith remain very grateful to all those donors who have given us books to sell to raise vital funds for human rights worldwide.

We are particularly pleased when members leave their whole library to us. Recently we have been selling books from the late Christopher Hull of Bow Bridge, East London, whose amazing collection of philosophy and politics books took us three days to move. We are always happy to come to collect books in quantities, or donations can be dropped off at the shop seven days a week.

Our next clearance sale at the Conway Hall will be held on Thursday 26th November when books that are not suitable to sell in our shop will be offered at bargain prices.
